about

Though often confused, Spanish flamenco and Argentine tango have very little in common. Even the guitar playing in both styles is very distant. Perhaps there is only a similarity to be found in a feeling of yearning and melancholy that speaks from these two musics.

This month's new composition uses that similarity to the fullest. Not forgetting his dancing audience, Mirek composed this tango with an air of Cadíz, the birthplace of flamenco music. The otherwise restrained Spanish influence in his playing is let loose and Gerard easily follows in this new energy for Walton/van Duinen. A strong underlying bass by Arjen Leendertz completes the novelty.

about

Gerard van Duinen (bandoneon) and Mirek Walton (guitar) join together in a new tango duo: energetic, intriguing and ... more innovative. They challenge each other to discover unknown territories of music. By writing new compositions they explore the limits of the tango idiom, without ever forsaking their love for the rich history of the characteristic tango style. less
